The temperature may be dropping, but offers and activities are hotting up in the Park.

Employees have discounted access to sizzling NRL matches at ANZ Stadium through Lifestyle, a variety of hot acts are appearing at Acer Arena, heats of record-breaking swims showcased the Aquatic Centre recently, the Bulldogs are settling in to their new home in the Park and yet another wonderful Royal Easter Show is winding up. Whew !

Transport Survey
A huge thank you to the 1,800 plus park employees who completed the recent transport survey. It will take some time to process and analyse the data, but we'll keep you posted of findings and recommendations through the SOPBA website and through SOPBiz.

May Networking Breakfast
The next SOPBA event is our networking breakast on Thursday, 1 May in the Boulevard Terrace at Acer Arena.

Shane O'Leary, the CEO of the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games Organising Committee is our guest speaker.

Members Networking Breakfast-1 May 2008, Acer Arena

In terms of competitor numbers, the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games will be the biggest multi-sport event ever staged with over 25,000 athletes to compete in 28 sports across nine days (October 10 to October 18) next year.

Sydney Olympic Park will be the sport and social heart of the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games, the seventh edition of an international event that is commonly referred to as the Olympic Games for persons of 30 years and beyond.

The Sydney 2009 World Masters Games will be the hot topic of conversation at the SOPBA breakfast on Thursday 1st May. SOPBA members can receive considerable benefits from the staging of the Games including increased sales, by tapping into the projected competitor spend of $68 million; enhanced employee morale, by using the Games as a goal to promote healthy active lifestyles; and via support for the NSW Government in its quest to bring more major events to the state and Sydney Olympic Park in particular. Pullman Hotel at Sydney Olympic Park

The new Pullman Hotel at Sydney Olympic Park has reached two more major milestones on the road to opening later this year.

Firstly the roof has now been officially closed meaning the exterior construction is now complete.

Work on the exterior finishes and the interior continues, with the first rooms nearing completion. The second major milestone is the appointment of the Executive Chef. General Manager Marcus Hanna has announced this week that Mr David Greenhill has accepted the position. Mr Greenhill is an award winning chef with experience in a number of fine restaurants.

Foo Fighter tickets for Transport Survey competition winner

Acer Arena Business Development Manager Don Elford presented Ruth Tolton of NSW Lotteries with her two tickets for the Foo Fighters at Acer Arena, May 2.

Ruth completed the recent Park employee transport survey and scored the tickets for her efforts.

Ruth has worked with NSW Lotteries for three years and lives in Concorde. She came to Australia from England four years ago and is proud to show off her unique working environment at Sydney Olympic Park to visiting overseas relatives and friends.

On offer was a choice of tickets to either Celine Dion, Maroon 5 or the Foo Fighters, all at Acer Arena.

Star spotting at the Novotel and Hotel Ibis

Novotel and Hotel Ibis Sydney Olympic Park continues to host Australian sporting celebrities. During March the hotel was visited by Glenn McGrath as special guest at the RAS Young Auctioneers Dinner. The hotel also hosted swimmers competing at the Telstra Australian Swimming Championships, including Grant Hackett and Matt Welsh.

SBS sets the scene at Novotel & Hotel Ibis Sydney Olympic Park

After holding a meeting with us earlier in the month, Novotel Sydney Olympic Park was selected by Paul Fenech (creator of "Fat Pizza") to film scenes from his new TV Comedy "The Package". Mr Fenech signed up Amanda Keller to star in the scenes filmed at Sydney Olympic Park. The show will air on SBS later this year.

March General Meeting

Around 50 people,representing around 31 Park business attended the recent General Meeting at the new Courtside Function and Events Centre at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

Alan Marsh, CEO of Sydney Olympic Park Authority addressed the group who sampled some of Gema Catering's tempting food offerings at the Park's newest function location.

2008 BEIJING OLYMPICS

2008 Olympic Torch comes to Sydney Olympic Park

The Torch will visit The Cauldron 8am Wednesday 7th May (TBC) with stop-over visits to interested companies. The visit schedule is on www.SportsStar.com.au

Australian Olympic Team to assist our Australian athletes at the 2008
Beijing Olympics.

NEW FACES

New 'players' at the Waterview Convention Centre

The Wateview Convention Centre, Bicentennial Park welcomed new General Manager, David Grovenor earlier this year.

Previously David held the position of Catering Manager at Panthers World of Entertainment Group for 10 years and prior to Panthers David was Operations Manager at Curzon Hall Function Centre.

Kathryn Carmody joins the team as Director of Sales and Marketing. Kathryn's previous positions have included, Director of Sales, Hunter Valley Gardens, Tallawanta Lodge and Harrigan's Irish Pub Regional, Sales Manager for Royal Pines Resort, Director of Sales and Marketing, Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts and 10 years in the five star hotel industry in the USA.

Dajana Culek moves from two years as Wedding Coordinator at the Waterview to Sales Manager - Corporate Waterview Convention Centre.

Leanne Kai, moves in as Business Development Executive, Corporate and Kim Leung and Crystal Bellchambers will look after the very popular Weddings market for the Waterview.
