WHAT'S NEW IN 2010
'Raw' excitement with weekend brunch now on the menu
Dining options in Sydney Olympic Park just keep getting better with news that Raw Café and Espresso Bar is now opening on weekends for brunch. Between 6.30am and 3pm an extensive brunch menu is on offer. This is good news for Park employees working weekends, local residents, hotel guests and event patrons. The passion and excitement of brother and sister owner operators Dominic and Rosemary Romeo (pictured) is refreshing and contagious when they discuss this latest expansion to their Sydney Olympic Park operation – the first of many announcements, in fact, in the coming weeks. From a sour dough stack with ricotta, roasted tomato, prosciutto and rocket finished with Parmesan olive oil, to pastas, stir fries and fresh fruit salad with Greek style yogurt, the brunch menu caters for all tastes and budgets. Raw Café is located in 10 Dawn Fraser Avenue in the Commonwealth Bank Building. They can be contacted on Telephone: 9746 3690, Fax 9746 2910 or by email: rawcafe@optusnet.com.au.

NEW MEMBER PROFILE
Urban Cafe
Gary Baris (left), owner and operator of Urban Café, may be a newcomer to Sydney Olympic Park, but he is certainly not new to the business of coffee shops, cafes and restaurants.
With over 20 years experience in the business, including consulting in hospitality, Gary’s previous successes are well known to anyone previously working in the CBD. ‘Silks’ in the Law Society Building in Phillip Street and ‘La Cantina’ in the ‘Asteron’ building (ex Enrst & Young) at 321 Kent Street are two of his previous ‘corporate’ establishments, an area which Gary has focused on in the past eight years.
“The location in the Commonwealth Bank building was ideal for me and after recently selling another business in Sydney, I see myself concentrating my efforts on the ever-growing Sydney Olympic Park area for the time being,” said Gary.
And that includes the appointment of a new Barista to the Urban Café team. Adam George’s credentials are impressive. Adam ( pictured right) previous worked at Bella Roma at Balgowlah alongside two times Barista champion, Scott Callahan.
Testimony to Adam’s own expertise and nine-year experience is evidenced by his ‘sideline’, as accredited coffee judge with the Australasian Specialty Coffee Association.
‘I’m obsessive about quality and simply love coffee,” said Adam
Translating the theory of what makes a good coffee to a quality end product is what defines not just a barista, but a good barista.
And in Adam’s own words, “here at Urban Cafe we freshly grind the coffee beans for each individual cup of coffee. It might take a bit longer, but we don’t allow the coffee to sit around and go stale. The end result is a more rewarding experience for both the Barista and the customer.”
“Being made with love and passion also helps”, he concluded.
Urban café is open Monday to Friday 6am-5pm. On offer is an extensive breakfast menu, with fresh salads, burgers, pastas, risottos, steaks and fish for later in the day. It is located on the corner of Park Street and Herb Elliott Avenue, although the formal address is 2 Dawn Fraser Avenue.

OUT 'N ABOUT
Cricket looks right at home at ANZ Stadium
Another successful ANZ Stadium cricket season has drawn to a close, but not before more than 56,000 fans caught the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues in action.
The Blues’ Big Bash' campaign featured twice at ANZ Stadium with matches against Queensland and South Australia drawing record crowds.
Despite inclement weather, 29,743 fans turned out to see New South Wales up against Queensland while 26,406 rolled up for the Blues’ clash with SA, even though the match was a dead rubber.
The near-30,000 crowd was the second biggest in the history of domestic limited overs cricket until three days later when 43,125 people filed into the MCG to see Victoria take on Tasmania.
ANZ Stadium Managing Director Daryl Kerry said: “Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW should be congratulated on producing such fabulous sports entertainment and very impressive crowd figures so early in the competition’s history.
“We’re thrilled with the numbers that showed up to the two matches held at ANZ Stadium and the wonderful atmosphere created by the fans.
“Against the backdrop of our negotiations to host international cricket, the Twenty20 crowds certainly enhanced our case.”
ANZ Stadium has lodged a comprehensive proposal to host international limited overs matches and the outcome is expected this month.
The Stadium was granted International Cricket Council accreditation in December following a thorough inspection of the venue. An innovative move to rotate the pitch to run east west rather than north south was a catalyst for the approval.
The pitch rotation, which made its debut during the Twenty20 season, means 45,000 seats, most of them undercover, now fall behind the bowler’s arm in the arc between wide mid on and wide mid off.
“The east west running pitch is great for spectators, players and television audiences and the ICC acknowledged that when they granted ANZ Stadium international accreditation last month,” said Kerry.
Big Day Out
A remarkable 18 years on from when it first started with a bang back in 1992, Australia's internationally renowned music festival – the Big Day Out – was recently held at Sydney Showground.
The Big Day Out has grown to become the largest travelling festival in the world, and this year the event hit an incredible milestone of 100 shows.
Thousands of punters helped to celebrate this epic achievement, and enjoyed a spectacular fireworks and cannon fire finale that marked the special occasion.
Bulldogs add to sponsors list
Bulldogs Chief Executive Todd Greenberg recently announced that the Club’s commitment to family has been rewarded with Doltone House signing on as sleeve sponsor for the next three years in a million dollar deal.
And in a further boost to the Club’s preparations for the upcoming season, the Membership program has already grown by 14% to just over 8,000 and further increases are expected as the game moves into the key purchasing period for fans.
Sydney Showground earns its racing stripes with Sydney Telstra 500 success
Sydney Showground played a pivotal role in the success of the recent Sydney Telstra 500 event, including catering of the pit lane corporate suites, hosting the indoor V8 supercar paddock, the support paddocks, indoor car displays and autograph signings, the emergency services command post, Main Arena entertainment, and various public food and beverage outlets.
A massive logistical operation ensured that race fans stayed well fed and refreshed during the event, employing close to 700 people for corporate hospitality, kitchen staff, site specific security, cleaning and management. Our team of highly skilled chefs and wait staff served just over 6,000 corporate meals, and nearly 5,000 meals to media and volunteers over the three days.
V8 Supercars Australia Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of the Sydney Telstra 500 Shane Howard said being able to utilise the entire precinct was the major reason the event proved to be such a resounding success.
Sydney Showground Chief Executive Peter King says the event was an unprecedented success and highlighted just how Sydney Showground can be utilised for world class events.
“Olympic Park has proved itself once again. ” said Mr King.”
Titan Management's team players in the Big Bash
