SOPBiz - JUNE 2010

FROM THE CEO's DESK

June 2010, the start of winter and the ending of yet another financial year.

Last week a number of renewal notices went out to those members whose membership period commences 1 July. Two and three year discounts are now available for Platinum, Gold and Silver membership with 10% and 15% discounts available. Please call or email if you are interested in a multiple year membership.

Another new arrival to the Park today with Olympic park Hip and Knee Specialists opening their doors today at 8 Australia Avenue with a Sushi train soon to pull in as well.

I'll be away at the World Cup in South Africa from 8-28 June, accessing my emails every few days. However you can send any emails to Allison Taylor - allison@sopba.com.au.

Our next Members' networking function will be an After-Five meeting on Wednesday, 28 July where you will be introduced first hand to two new Members - Olympic Park Hip and Knee Specialists and Blue Wealth Property (featured in this month's newsletter ) in their repective premises at 8 Australia Avenue.

And something else to raise with you now is a proposed Business Expo Breakfast in September to celebrate 10 years of the Business Association and 10 years since the highly successful 2000 Olympic Games in this very Park. The format for this breakfast includes an opportunity for all members to showcase themselves to other businesses in the Park, as well as to all employees. It never ceases to amaze me how little our internal Park customers know about us, so this will be your opportunity to rectify this.

So I'll speak with you all again on my return, so in the meantime, Go the Socceroos and happy end of financial year !

Pictured is Terry Kennedy and Michael Slater from 2KY's Big Sports Breakfast who sampled some of the Park's finest food offerings as part of the Taste of Origin Promotion run in conjunction with Origin One at ANZ Stadium.

OUT 'N ABOUT

New office block continues Sydney Olympic Park growth

Minister for Western Sydney David Borger said Sydney Olympic Park has continued to grow and prosper 10 years after the historic 2000 Olympic Games.

“The long term vision of the Park always saw a future beyond the Olympic Games, one which foresaw its development as a major commercial precinct,” Mr Borger said.

“Sydney Olympic Park is a key commercial centre at the geographic heart of Sydney and the gateway to Western Sydney.”

Minister Borger was speaking at the official opening of a six-story commercial office building located in the heart of the Park’s urban centre, in Australia Avenue.

Watpac Constructions Pty Ltd undertook the development of the building, which houseS Watpac’s NSW headquarters, together with a number of other commercial tenants.

The new building is designed to meet the most stringent environmental criteria, in line with the Park’s green ethos and has achieved a 4 Star Green Star—Office Design v2 rating with the Green Building Council of Australia, and has a Commitment Agreement to achieve a 4.5-star NABERS Energy rating.

“Sydney Olympic Park is a burgeoning business and entertainment district, and we are pleased to be able to contribute to the growth and vitality of this area,” Watpac Managing Director Greg Kempton said.

“We are very pleased to have taken up residence in this top location, and our staff is looking forward to taking advantage of all that the Park has to offer.”

Key tenants of the building, in addition to Watpac, include;
• Fujitsu;
• Blue Wealth Property;
• Sydney Olympic Park Authority
• NSW Realty

Blues at The Pullman

There were plenty of Blues at The Pullman recently, but there was no need for concern. It was the NSW Blues. The team were based at the hotel in the lead up to Origin One. Needless to say, there was no easy departure for Craig Bellamey without having a few words with the the media first.

Hithai with just a 'Taste of Origin'

Clare and James Park, the owners of HiThai, always get into the spirit of State of Origin through the 'Taste of Origin' promotions. For their efforts both they and Food Alert received a couple of free tickets to the game from the NRL.

Like most restaurants in the Park on the night, Hithai was booked out, despite a number of 'no-shows' in the extreme weather conditions. The walk-ups made up the numbers. Well done!

Food Alert-ed that the Park has many eating options

The team at Food Alert are a happy bunch and their gozlemes, salads and kebabs made both 2KY's Big Sports Beakfast duo of Terry Kennedy and Michael Slater and Ray Hadley and his Continuous Call team a 2GB very happy as well.

As part of the Taste of Origin promotion, Food Alert provided food samples to both Radio Stations. Other eateries who provided samples for the food tastings were Raw Cafe, Ribs and Rumps, Subway,Novotel and Lilies on the Park.

Inaugural 'Laugh out Loud

On 7 May around 60 Business Association representatives attended the Inaugural 'Laugh out Loud' breakfast at ANZ Stadium with other business from Greater Western Sydney. The Business Association was a Bronze sponsor of the event which supported two members in Special Olympics Australia and ANZ Stadium.
Pictured is staff from Gift and Homewares Australia who were part of the Business Association attendees on the morning.

'Lights, Cameras, Accident!'

Southern Star Productions, in association with the Nine  Network, recently shot footage for the show 'Rescue: Special Ops' in the Park.

So there was no need for concern with the 'accident' on the corner of Park Sreet and Murray Rose Avenue.

EVENTS FOR THE DIARY

Cahill's Everton to grace ANZ Stadium

Powerhouse Premier League side Everton FC, home to Socceroos star Tim Cahill, will play in a marquee international fixture at ANZ Stadium on 10 July against Sydney FC.

The return of international football to ANZ Stadium is a wonderful opportunity for Sydney to showcase its credentials as a major event city in a year Australia is bidding to host the FIFA World Cup.

Football has enjoyed great success at ANZ Stadium since 1999, luring huge crowds who have seen great teams such as Manchester United and Brazil and individual superstars David Beckham and Harry Kewell.

ANZ Stadium Managing Director and CEO Daryl Kerry said: “This is fantastic news for Australian sports fans and we’re really excited to have the opportunity to host one of football’s most iconic teams.

“Add Tim Cahill to the mix and the game will be an amazing spectacle.

“ANZ Stadium played host to arguably Australia’s greatest football moment when John Aloisi’s penalty goal saw the Socceroos qualify for their first World Cup in more than 30 years.

“This game will only create more fantastic memories and help add to Australia’s growing passion for the world game.”

Cahill, the first Australian to score a World Cup goal, has been an integral part of the Socceroos squad since his 2004 debut.

Born in Sydney, Cahill has confirmed he will play at ANZ Stadium if his FIFA World Cup commitments are complete. The World Cup final is scheduled for July 11. Australia’s last Group game is scheduled for June 23.

The attacking midfielder added: “I think (the tour is) fantastic for the A-League and also Everton because Australia’s got a massive following of Everton supporters.

 “They’re a proud following and I think for a Premier League team like Everton to visit Australia is absolutely massive.”

Tickets are available trough Ticketek. Visit www.ticketek.com.au or call 132 849. For ANZ Stadium hospitality packages, call 1300 13 40 10.

Wallabies, England with revenge on mind

Qantas Wallabies coach Robbie Deans believes a game against England is “one of the ultimate sporting confrontations”. Which is why he’s called on his squad to raise the bar when they meet England in the annual Cook Cup at ANZ Stadium this month.

After a 18-9 victory in Twickenham in November, the Wallabies will be chasing a fourth consecutive Cook Cup on Saturday 19 June.

“Playing Australia in Sydney returns England, and in particular their manager Martin Johnson and key player Jonny Wilkinson, to the venue of their greatest triumph in the game in the 2003 Rugby World Cup final,” Deans said.

Tickets are available through Ticketek. Visit www.ticketek.com.au or call 132 849.

“Like everything with this production, this process is big.”

Meanwhile, a casting call for the 180 ensemble roles is underway with Australia’s leading acting agencies perusing their books.Roman senators, gladiators and slaves are just some of the roles which need to be filled when auditions are conducted in July.
