OUT 'N ABOUT
Accor extreme challenge to raise funds to cure kids
Three employees from Accor’s Sydney Olympic Park hotels are part of two teams heading to Fiji to take part in the Cure Kids Fiji Island Extreme Challenge to raise funds for sick children in that country.
Marcus Hanna, General Manager for Pullman Hotels, Jane Broadhead, Conference Executive for the Pullman, Novotel and Ibis hotels in western Sydney and Rafael Ruiz, Marketing Executive, will join around 20 other Accor colleagues in the gruelling four-day challenge with the aim of raising at least $200,000 AUD.
Over the course of the event the teams will undertake swimming, running, kayaking and other challenges to test their physical and mental endurance and do their bit to reduce infant and child deaths in Fiji. Part ‘Amazing Race’, part ‘Extreme Make-over’ and part ‘Survivor’, this year’s challenge will see teams of two competing to finish a range of challenges that culminate in making over Nadi Hospital’s maternity ward.
Thanks to the amazing spirit and fundraising of Accor teams across the Asia Pacific, Jane and Rafael must raise at least $5,000 AUD just to compete and are asking surrounding businesses and households to contribute to their cause.
Already Accor has raised well over FJD$600,000 (approx AUD $350,000) for 'Cure Kids' to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment, pay for visiting medical teams to perform surgeries, treatment for children with heart problems and provide ongoing supply of parts to ensure medical machinery continues to work.
And team number 2 is....
The second team with a Park representative consists of Marcus Hanna, GM Pullman Hotels in Sydney Olympic Park (pictured) and Richard Holt, GM of the Bondi Swiss Grand.
Good luck to Marcus, Jane and Rafael from all your Park colleagues!

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
Sydney Showground Precinct upgrade to benefit Western Sydney and regional NSW
The upgraded stadium facilities at Sydney Showground is a major step forward in helping Sydney attract and retain major sporting and leisure events.
Peter King (pictured), Chief Executive of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) welcomed the investment recent announcement made by the NSW Government, backed with funding contributions from the Australian Football League and the RAS.
“The upgrade will enable Sydney Showground to attract and retain major events well into the future and generate greater returns for the RAS to invest into programs which support our core charter: agriculture; education; competitions; youth; and regional NSW.
Each year the RAS invests over $6 million into agricultural competitions and education derived from revenue from the business generated as the operator of Sydney Showground.
The seating capacity of the Main Arena will increase from 13,000 to 25,000 including an upgrade of the associated amenities including hospitality, security, turf and media facilities.
“Sydney Olympic Park already has an enviable reputation as the best events precinct in Australia and the Sydney Showground upgrade will complement this,” said Mr King.
“The new facilities will enhance visitor experience at the major national events we already host - Sydney Royal Easter Show, V8 Supercars and the Big Day Out ( pictured) - and create a top class, boutique, multi-purpose stadium in the heart of Sydney.
Enhancing the Main Arena facilities will create an additional $446 million of economic and social value for NSW, an estimated 3,400 jobs for Western Sydney.
“This is a great investment which will provide wide ranging benefits to the people of NSW,” Mr King said.
“We are thrilled to be the new home game match venue for the Greater Western Sydney AFL team and hope to attract other sports including cricket, soccer and baseball games along with concerts and festivals, which will create a diversified income stream for the RAS.
The Sydney Showground Main Arena upgrade will be funded by the State Government, the Australian Football League, and the RAS and is expected to be completed in 2012.
