OUT 'N ABOUT
Sydney Showground Stadium Development on Track
NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell and the Minister for Sport and Recreation Graham Annesley recently inspected progress on the $65-million Sydney Showground Stadium upgrade at Sydney Olympic Park.
Beginning in April this year construction of the new multi-purpose Stadium is well on track for completion in March 2012, ready to host Australia's largest event - the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Set to be the best boutique Stadium in Australia, seating capacity will grow from 13,000 to 25,000, complete with new covered grandstands, corporate facilities and the largest video screen in the Southern Hemisphere.
Premier Barry O'Farrell said the Stadium will be a fantastic multi-purpose facility for the people of Western Sydney – from the Sydney Royal Easter Show to AFL matches, other sporting events, concerts and festivals.
"The NSW Government is proud to be funding this upgraded facility, in the heart of Western Sydney and – for a change – set to be delivered on time and on budget," said Premier O'Farrell. "My Government is committed to attracting more major events to Western Sydney and this new ground will be a key drawcard to help make that a reality."
Peter King, Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) Chief Executive said the upgrade is generating significant economic activity in Western Sydney and will enable the RAS to attract and retain major events.
"Enhancing the Stadium facilities will create an additional $446 million of economic and social value for NSW and an estimated 3,400 full time Western Sydney jobs," said Mr King.
"The upgrade of this government-owned, RAS-operated asset is a long term investment for the community. A true multi-purpose venue, Sydney Showground is realising its objective of becoming the Sydney's event hub as we play host to Australia's largest and highest profile events."
The RAS is the new home game match venue for the Greater Western Sydney Giants and looks forward to the team's maiden home game in May 2012.

Paul Sergeant, Allphones Arena General Manager said “The past twelve months has provided music lovers with an incredible array of global superstars. We were thrilled to be nominated for a third consecutive year and, along with our colleagues from Melbourne, it shows just how strong and well regarded the live music scene is viewed around the World. We’re here to serve all and thank our promoters for their fantastic support”.

EQUITANA Sydney attracted around 50,000 visitors who enjoyed four days of world-class competition, equine entertainment, exhibition and education over 14 indoor and outdoor venues and 60,000 square metres of the Sydney Showground site.
Three hundred cubic metres of sawdust and 3,000 tonnes of soil were transported into The Dome and Exhibition Halls, to create the indoor multipurpose arena and a series of display areas.
Rod Lockwood, Definitive Events Managing Director said “Sydney Showground has been extremely cooperative in delivering all of our requirements to enable us put on a world class event for our exhibitors, competitors and visitors,”

Members will be supporting Pillars of Strength
The Business Association Golf Day, in conjunction with Sydney Olympic Park Golf Centre, will be support a charity each year. In 2011 the charity is 'Pillars of Strength.'
Take a look at these facts.
Every year in Australia: • 68,000 children are hospitalised • Around 44,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery • Up to 1000 babies sadly lose their fight for life.
In dealing with this trauma, 80 per cent of all parental relationships break down. Men are part of this picture but are often forgotten, until now.
Out of losing his son Isaac in 2010 and finding that there was no service to provide support for men, a new Australian first initiative, Pillars of Strength, has been launched at Royal North Shore Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive care unit (NICU). Pillars of Strength aims to provide fathers with the support and time out they need while their baby is sick, or to provide support after the loss of their baby.
Operating since August, the program pilot has begun assisting dads and families during this difficult time through the Pillars of Strength “Time Out” and “In hospital support” programs.
Partnering with major sporting codes, teams, venues and organisations, Pillars of Strength provides Dads with the opportunity to participate in, or attend, sporting and fitness activities with mates, family members or another Dad who has experienced a similar situation.

V8 SUPERCARS
Best Themed outlet Winners
Congratulations to the winner of the Best Themed outlet for the 2011 Sydney Telstra 500 V8 Supercars race, Hip and Knee Clinic @Sydney Olympic Park!
However due to the efforts of both Pharmacy @ Sydney Olympic Park and Ribs and Rumps, the judging panel has awarded two ‘Highly Commended’ prizes as well.
First prize was four VIP passes for Friday, 2 December including back of pits access and a course car ride for four people. The 'Highly Commended' prize was two General Admission passes for Friday 2 December and course car ride for two people.
When told of their win, Judy Taylor was quick to point out that it was "a real team effort."
‘The piece of Wayne Gardener’s car (which is in the window) was purchased at a charity auction and the kids of our staff provide all their toy cars. The four faces of our doctors which appear above the drivers bodies certainly amused our patients.”
Judy also mentioned that all the husbands of her staff also contributed their ideas as to what she be included. Therefore on the basis of creative use of the material provided, Hip and Knee Clinic @Sydney Olympic Park was a stand out!
From V8 Supercars Australia, Homebush Motor Racing Authority and Sydney Olympic Park Business Association, thank you to all participating retailers. Your efforts are much appreciated!
Pictured - Due to the glass frontage it is difficult to do the display justice. However the piece of Wayne Gardener's car is visible along with the staff childrens' contribution of toy cars.
It's a convoy ! - V8 Transporters en route to Sydney Olympic Park
A spectacular convoy of 18 B Double transporters carrying the valuable cargo of the V8 Supercars racing teams attracted the jaw-dropping attention of bystanders and other drivers last Thursday. The awesome vehicles powered down the M4 Western Motorway en-route to their final destination, Sydney Olympic Park, for yesterday's Grand Finale of the V8 Supercras series.
Standing 4.3 metres in height and around 26 metres in length, with the average unit boasting 34 tyres and ranging from 450 to 620 horsepower, was an impressive sight as it made its way from Huntington to the Park.
To demonstrate the sheer magnitude of the transporters, they have an average weight of 55 tonnes and a fuel tank size of 1,500-2,000 litres, compared with a standard car, which weighs just one tonne and has an average fuel tank size of 60 litres.

SOPA NEWS
Traffic intersection upgrade at Edwin Flack, Birnie and Shane Gould Avenues
Sydney Olympic Park Authority has commenced work on a project to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection of Edwin Flack Avenue, Birnie Avenue and Shane Gould Avenue. The project will see traffic signals installed at the intersection, along with an additional lane exiting Shane Gould Avenue and right hand turning lanes from Edwin Flack Avenue into both Birnie Avenue and Shane Gould Avenue. The project will require a number of trees to be removed from the median strip and to accommodate the additional lanes and improve sight lines for the intersection. New tree plantings will be done adjacent to the P3 car park and Australia Avenue marker.
There may be some changes to traffic conditions at the intersection including the temporary closure of Shane Gould Avenue, as important works are carried out for the project. Works will be programmed to avoid any clashes with major events occurring in the Park, wherever possible. This road upgrade project is expected to be completed by mid 2012.
Sydney Olympic Park Authority appreciates your cooperation throughout the project and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
