Allphones Arena Biggest year ever

Having predicted a busy period 12 months ago, Allphones Arena's year proved highly successful with the arena becoming the 11th top grossing venue in the world while hosting seven of the top 10 grossing tours of 2013.

After an incredibly successful 2012, the Allphones Arena hosted seven out of Pollstar's 2013 Top 10 Highest Grossing Worldwide Tours as well as coming in 11th in the industry bible's 2013 Year End Worldwide Venue Ticket Sales.

The year saw the Sydney venue host 29 separate events including sell-out shows from Beyoncé (four shows), P!nk (four shows), Justin Bieber (two shows), Rihanna, Cirque de Soleil – Michael Jackson: The Immortal (six shows) and One Direction (seven shows).

A highlight of 2013, saw Allphones Arena host what it called 'Mammoth March', hosting rock bands Kiss and Mötley Crüe, followed by Guns N' Roses and comedian Russell Peters before the month closed with Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band hitting the Arena for three nights on the award winning Wrecking Ball Tour.

Pop superstars One Direction also performed seven shows at the Allphones Arena in October breaking the venue's record for ticket sales by a group and longest run for a single tour. Ticket sales for One Direction's seven Allphones Arena shows were 81,542 breaking the record of 74,244 held by Metallica since 2010.

In 2014, the first half of the year will see Allphones Arena host shows from a plethora of superstar acts who also made the 2013 Pollstar Top 50 list including The Rolling Stones (25th March), Bruno Mars (10th and 11th March), Michael Bublé (9th, 10th, 16th and 17th March) and John Mayer (24th April).

The venue will also play host to a wide variety of events in the coming months including Mrs. Browns Boys (1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th March), Lionel Richie and John Farnham (13th March), Toby Keith (18th March), Jay Chou (11th April), Nitro Circus Live (23rf May), Keith Urban (21st and 22nd June) as well as International Ice Hockey (26th July), WWE (8th August) and NSW Swifts Netball (18th May).

Commenting on the Pollstar results, Allphones Arena General Manager Guy Ngata explained "(these results) show the calibre of events we have coming to Allphones Arena in what was our busiest year since the 2000 Olympics."

"Through the year 380,000 people attended 26 performances at the Allphones Arena and it was an exciting year in terms of the quality of the artists and the fans we welcomed."

In achieving this success, Ngata praise the role of the venue’s staff, adding "the staff at Allphones Arena were behind this success, with a huge commitment to the cause, helping plan and implement the events and working long and sometimes unsocial hours.

Ngata added "it is important for a venue like ours to be busy and beyond the events and acts we attract, we undertake lots of work in developing the venue with initiatives like hospitality options and attracting next generation of concert going fans.

Here Ngata emphasises the importance of acts such as One Direction, introducing younger fans to the live concert experience.

He adds "One Direction's run of seven performances at Allphones Arena was just outstanding. "81,542 screaming fans across six perfect October days will be something difficult to ever repeat let alone break."

Looking forward to 2014,Ngata hopes the year will prove equal, if not bigger than 2013, concluding "our goal in 2014 is to rank in the world's top 10 venues. Given the acts we have coming this year we are confident of achieving this".
